Roadside Relics is Australia’s longest established full time business specializing in all facets of what is now popularly known of as “Petroliana” and “Garagenalia”. Put simply we specialize in motoring antiques with emphasis on petrol, oil and other motor garage related collectables.
A vast range of original and replica items are always available including petrol bowsers, pump globes, enamel signs, oil bottles and tops, oil bottle racks, decals, restoration items and literature. At the time of writing stock on hand includes over 70 petrol bowsers, 500 signs and in excess of 1000 oil bottles and tops…….plus tonnes of other genuine original old motoring treasures.
Roadside Relics showroom and warehouse is situated in Gympie, Queensland. 2 hours north of Brisbane and just 200m off highway 1. We have a large warehouse to house the huge variety of garage memorabilia available for sale. Business hours are weekdays 8.30am to 4.30pm (excluding public holidays). Daily running of the business is handled by Mike Munday and Mark O’Shea ( with over 50 years of experience in the sign and motoring antiques fields between them, including formal qualifications in the areas of graphic design and fine art ).
The new Roadside Relics website is an exciting move forward as those unable to drop into our Gympie office will now be able to view a good cross section of both our replica and original stock from the comfort of their own home or office!! It is our intention to update the site on a regular basis so fresh items will be listed for all to see. It is impossible to list all available items on our website… so if what you are after is not listed please make contact and we can advise regarding availability. We hope that the new website will be a refreshing change for the better where items will be displayed and described accurately complete with selling price, thus avoiding the pitfalls of other sales methods. Please note that all items on our website are also for sale “over the counter”. Our website is updated regularly but we cannot guarantee that all stock shown will be available at the time of your enquiry as we may not have had the time to withdraw sold items.
All prices quoted on our website are inclusive of GST. Roadside Relics is a full time business and, as such, issues official tax invoices.
Please visit us in Gympie if you get the chance and add our website to your “favourites”list. The new site will be our “shop window” displaying a vast array of petrol and oil collectables as they become available.
HISTORY (The brief version)
Roadside Relics was established in 1984 and is owned and operated by Mike and Leigh Munday. In the early years interest in “Petroliana” was very limited and the business focused on acquiring original bowsers, globes and related artwork in order to faithfully reproduce Australian advertising globes and oil company artwork (decals) for the restorer. A massive amount of historical research and painstaking work was also done by Leo Duffy, Robin Hart, Neil Perrin and the late Gregor Cox to develop the wide range of items now available for the restorer/collector. Over the past decade this hobby has become far more mainstream with a huge number of collectors, enthusiasts and investors taking a very strong interest in petrol and oil collectables. A combination of nostalgia and the wide spread interest in motoring have seen huge growth. Those involved range from individuals with a pump and sign or two through to “hard core” collectors and investors with sheds full of old garage memorabilia…… Restaurants, theme cafes, the automotive trade, the movie industry, museums and historical societies make up just a few of the many new owners of these old collectables.
In recent times Roadside Relics have supplied a petrol pump to a child minding centre and also to a home for the elderly. Staff at the latter claim that a group of their residents sit by the bowser on a daily basis and discuss “days gone by”, while the children at the day care centre fill up their imaginary cars while they play… this is very satisfying, testimony to the broad appeal and enjoyment of old garage collectables.
Roadside Relics continue to develop and source new items to suit the restorer as well as buying and selling a growing volume of original petrol and oil collectables. Garagenalia is here to stay.
